Rev. Dr. John F. Evans
Rev. Dr. John Evans began his ministry to Covenant Presbyterian Church in America in September 2017.
Pastor John Evans was born in North Carolina and grew up in Indiana as the son and grandson of ministers. For 20 years he and his wife Elizabeth worked with the African Church in leadership training. John spent six years of pastoral ministry in the USA, after which they moved to Zambia to join the faculty of the Theological College of Central Africa. There John served as lecturer (1997–2007), Registrar (1998–2001), and Academic Dean (2001–2007). Elizabeth taught freshman English in the college, and Bible in the student “Wives’ Programme.” Leaving Zambia in 2008 because of air pollution and resultant health problems, they were visiting lecturers at Namibia Evangelical Theological Seminary in Windhoek (January–June 2008).
In 2009 John and Elizabeth moved to Kenya, where John taught for eight years in the Biblical Studies Department at Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology, eventually heading that department. He is a graduate of The Stony Brook School in New York; Calvin College (BA); Covenant Theological Seminary (MDiv and ThM); and Universiteit van Stellenbosch (DTh), with post-doctoral studies in Cambridge, England.
The Evanses have three children: Martyn, Grace Elisabeth (Schroeder), and Daniel. They are blessed, too, with a beautiful grandson, Cole, born in 2016. John says he feels “very honored indeed” to be called to pastor Covenant Presbyterian Church.
